To People Trying to Offer Help for Depression

Before you go back to normal life after you have posted, 'we can talk' and 'talking will help' you need to know that there are various factors for depression. From a farmer who commits suicide because he has lost his everything, to someone who has everything but still feels empty inside, depression has a wide spectrum. Now before you generalise the issue and go back to your worlds only to return when someone else dies, you need to know a few pointers.

Many people are depressed, but as they are busy they don't get time to concentrate on their thoughts. Idle times like quarantine bring back negative thoughts which were always present in the background. So, this would be the right time.

Talks and inspirational quotes are nothing more than fancy words without meanings if the problem is as external as it is internal. Situations and circumstances are also factors that shape the thought process. The whole ecosystem is responsible.

While talks do help at times, but in time their influence fades away. A person can act positive but if the environment continues to be negative the positivity tends to fade. If a person could stay positive in a negative environment, then the person wouldn't require your help.

This meme explains it well.

A vague analogy is not helpful, it can backfire. Don't give examples of apples for problems of oranges. It feels absurd to the person.

Remember, a person may feel dead inside. So words of the living may not always help.

We are a sad generation with happy Instagram stories, so good luck.

Ethnic Nationalism

A lot is heard about ethnic based separatist movements, like people of a particular region in a country having issues with people of other regions within the country. Most of the reasons are ethnic or cultural and the demands range from territorial autonomy to complete independence. Why does it happen? Well for that we have to go back in history. During the age of empires, the political boundaries were not limited to the cultural boundaries but depended on the ruler's imperial capacities. For examples: Maratha Empire had conquered and ruled states like Gujarat and Central India which were culturally distinct. The French Empire ruled Italy and Spain. The Japanese Empire briefly ruled nations in South East Asia and Korea. The British, well their rule was in every continent of the world. When concept of Nation-State emerged, it started changing political boundaries. Most common factor was language; kingdoms like Prussia, Saxony, Bavaria etc. joined to form Germany, as they a...
